How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Notarized DSC Affidavit (or signed/certified by court clerk in person)
- •Valid Texas Driver's License
- •Proof of financial responsibility (insurance)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (from a TDLR-approved course)
- •Certified Type 3A Texas Driving Record
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •On or before your appearance/arraignment date on the citation; DSC not available once that deadline passes without prior request
- •You have 90 days from court approval/DSC order to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •Per Standing Order No. 4 (Rev. 01/05/2026): 'PERSONS WITH A COMMERCIAL DRIVER'S LICENSE ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR A DRIVER'S SAFETY COURSE DEFERRAL FOR VIOLATION RELATED TO MOTOR VEHICLE CONTROL.'
- •Per Standing Order No. 4: 'ANY JUDGMENT PROCESSED IN ERROR WILL BE RESCINDED AND THE DEFENDANT WILL BE NOTIFIED OF A NEW COURT DATE.'
- •DSC references in Standing Orders include the Motorcycle Operator Course, per Art. 45A.352, TEX. CODE CRIM. PROC.
- •A defendant who has completed a DSC within the past 12 months from the date of the current citation is ineligible.
