DSC Court Fees

How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed Driving Safety Course Request Form (DSC Request Form)
- •Copy of valid Texas Driver's License or permit
- •Valid proof of insurance showing defendant as a covered driver (printed)
- •DSC court fee ($144.00 non-school zone / $169.00 school zone) — check or money order in-person/mail; card + processing fee online
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •AFTER COURSE COMPLETION: TDLR-approved Driving Safety Course Certificate of Completion
- •AFTER COURSE COMPLETION: Certified copy of driving record (Type 3A) from Texas DPS — all pages required, including final page stating 'End of Record'
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Within 15 days from the date of offense — submit all required items to the court for approval before taking the course
- •You have 90 days from court approval — course must be taken AND certificate + 3A driving record submitted to court within 90 days to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •CRITICAL: 'AFTER MAKING YOUR REQUEST TO THE COURT, DO NOT TAKE THE COURSE UNTIL YOU RECEIVE THE PAPERWORK FROM THE COURT ACCEPTING YOUR REQUEST.' — This applies to both mail and online submissions.
- •Eligibility requirements: No CDL at time of offense; no DSC completed for ticket dismissal in the previous 12 months (calculated from prior completion date to current violation date); valid TX driver's license or permit; valid printed proof of insurance as covered driver; violation was not in a construction/work zone with workers present; citation was for a moving violation (except passing a school bus); speed must be less than 25 mph over the posted limit if cited for speeding.
- •Defendants who are 24 years of age or younger required to complete a driver's safety course as a condition of deferred disposition (per 2025 Judicial Orders).
- •If defendant fails to comply with any DSC requirement, the court will set a Show Cause Hearing. Failure to appear at the hearing results in a conviction entered and reported to Texas DPS.
