How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Proof of liability insurance (or financial responsibility)
- •Copy of valid Texas driver's license
- •Guilty or no contest plea
- •Sworn affidavit confirming eligibility
- •DSC Request Form (download from court website)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Upon completion: signed Certificate of Completion from a TDLR-approved DSC provider
- •Upon completion: Certified Type 3A driving record from Texas Department of Public Safety
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must submit all required items and pay fee before the Appearance Date printed on your citation
- •Completion window: 90 days from court approval.
- •Cannot use DSC if you completed one within the previous 12 months (calculated from prior completion date to current violation date).
- •Ineligible offenses include: speeding 25+ mph over the limit, commercial driver's license (CDL) holders, construction zone violations, failure to give information at accident scene, leaving the scene of an accident, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, and passing a school bus.
- •Do not take the DSC before obtaining court approval — the court must approve your request first.
- •Phone calls do NOT satisfy appearance requirements; you must submit documents in writing (online, email, mail, or in-person) by the appearance date.
