How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed Driving Safety Course Request application (includes plea of guilty or no contest and a sworn affidavit that you have not taken a DSC in the 12 months preceding the offense)
- •Copy/photo of valid Texas driver's license or ID
- •Copy of current Texas liability insurance card
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •After approval/completion: TDLR-approved driving safety course certificate of completion
- •After approval/completion: certified Texas DPS Type 3A driver record
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be submitted on or before your scheduled appearance date
- •Completion window: 90 days to complete the course and submit the certificate and driver record to the court.
- •Eligibility requires a valid Texas driver's license, current Texas liability insurance, no DSC taken in the 12 months preceding the offense, and not currently taking a DSC for another violation.
- •Not eligible if: speeding 25+ mph over the limit, violation in an active construction/maintenance work zone, CDL holder, passing a stopped school bus, or leaving the scene of an accident.
- •School zone offenses carry an additional $25 (total $169).
- •Order the Type 3A driver record from Texas DPS; choose a course from the TDLR Approved Driving Safety Course Provider list.
