DSC Court Fees
⚠ $144 ($169 school zone) applies to offenses on or after January 1, 2020; offenses before that date are $129 ($154 school zone). Fee is court costs plus applicable fees, paid when entering a plea of guilty or no contest.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas Driver's License or permit
- •Proof of financial responsibility/vehicle liability insurance in your name or listing you as a driver
- •Plea of guilty or no contest with payment of court costs and fees
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •course completion certificate
- •certified copy of your driving record from the Texas Department of Public Safety
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be made within 10 calendar days of the date of citation
- •Completion window: 90 days from approval to complete the course and return the completion certificate and certified DPS driving record to the court.
- •Ineligible if you completed a DSC within one year preceding the citation, were cited for speeding 25+ mph over the posted limit, or hold a Commercial Driver's License
- •Verbatim: 'If you fail to complete any of the requirements by your due date, your case will be set for a Show Cause Hearing.'
- •If applying by mail or email, wait until you receive a permission letter from the court before taking the course
