DSC Court Fees
⚠ Fee is described on the official Citation Dismissal Options page as '$169.00 for School Zone Offenses or $144.00 for Other Zone Offenses.' Separate from course tuition.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed Driver's Safety Course Request Form (also on back of citation)
- •Copy of driver's license
- •Proof of insurance (financial responsibility)
- •Administrative fee payment ($144.00 standard / $169.00 school zone)
- •Driver's Safety Course completion certificate (returned to court within 90 days of approval)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Texas DPS certified driving record — Type 3A (returned to court within 90 days of approval)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •12 days from the date the citation was issued — verbatim: 'you will lose that right if you do not provide written notice to the court of your desire to do so on or before 12 days from the date the citation was issued'
- •You have 90 days from the date of court approval — verbatim: 'Complete a required 6 hour driver's safety course within 90 days from the date of approval' to complete the course and submit all documents.
- •CRITICAL LOCAL RULE: Mesquite's DSC request deadline is 12 days from the date of the citation — NOT the appearance date. This is stricter than many Texas courts. Verbatim: 'you will lose that right if you do not provide written notice to the court of your desire to do so on or before 12 days from the date the citation was issued.'
- •The DSC request form is printed on the back of the citation itself, in addition to the downloadable PDF form.
- •Adults may apply by mail, in person at the Court Clerk's office, or online. Juveniles may make the DSC request ONLY in open court.
- •Eligibility exclusions include: speeding 25 mph or more over the posted speed limit, driving more than 95 MPH, offenses in a work zone with workers present, school bus passing, leaving the scene of a collision, no insurance, and having taken a DSC in the preceding 12 months.
