Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license (to be copied)
- •Proof of insurance listing you as a driver on a currently active policy (to be copied)
- •Plea of guilty or no contest with waiver of right to trial
- •State-approved driving safety course completion certificate
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of your driving record (Type 3A), if required by the court
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Request must be made on or before the appearance date on your citation. Written/mail requests must be notarized and postmarked no later than the appearance date.
- •Completion window: Return all course documentation within 90 days. No extensions to complete the course will be given..
- •Do NOT take a driving safety course without first obtaining permission from the court.
- •DO NOT PAY ONLINE for defensive driving or deferred disposition — doing so results in a conviction; contact the court first.
- •No extensions to complete the course will be given.
- •Court accepts cash, check, money order, cashier's check, or credit/debit card; a service fee is added to all credit card payments.
