How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Valid Texas driver's license
- •Valid insurance policy with the defendant's name on it
- •Payment of applicable state court costs and administrative fees ($144 standard / $169 school zone)
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •DSC Certificate of Completion (signed)
- •Certified Type 3A Driving Record from Texas DPS
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Defendant must first have permission from the court before taking a driving safety course.
- •Not eligible if a DSC was taken within the 12 months prior to the citation date.
- •Not eligible if the violation occurred in a construction zone with workers present, the alleged speed was 25+ mph over the posted limit, or the violation was passing a school bus while loading/unloading students; CDL holders are also excluded.
- •If dismissed via DSC, the citation does not appear as a conviction on the driving record and per state law should not affect insurance premiums.
