Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed DSC Request form
- •Copy of valid Texas Driver's License
- •Proof of current vehicle liability insurance
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of driving record (request Record Type 3A)
- •Certificate of completion from a TDLR-approved driving safety / defensive driving course
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must contact the court to request the driving safety course on or before the initial appearance date listed on the citation.
- •You must contact the court (by phone, mail, or the night drop box) by your initial appearance date to tell them how you want to resolve the citation.
- •WARNING per the court: making a payment before speaking with the court clerk can close your case as 'Guilty' — do not pay online first if you intend to take a driving safety course.
- •When ordering your driving record for the course, select Record Type 3A.
