Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Completed Driving Safety Course Request and Affidavit form (available at johnsoncitytx.org/court-forms/)
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit (or military proof of active duty / dependent status)
- •Proof of financial responsibility / automobile liability insurance
- •Payment of court costs
- •Within 90 days: uniform certificate of DSC course completion (TEA-approved course)
- •Within 90 days: signed affidavit that no DSC was taken or completed in the 12 months preceding the offense date
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Within 90 days: certified Texas DPS driving record (Type 3A)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must request on or before the appearance date shown on the citation
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date of the DSC request.

- •DSC is NOT available for: speeding in a school zone, fleeing or attempting to elude police, reckless driving, or speeding 20+ mph over the limit.
- •Deferred disposition (separate option) requires: no prior deferral in Johnson City in the past year, max 2 traffic convictions in past 3 years, payment of special expense fee equal to the maximum fine plus court costs, valid insurance, and DPS Type 3A driving record.
