DSC Court Fees

Standard Texas DSC fee is typically $144 for moving violations and $169 for school zone violations, but varies by court.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •Signed Request for a Driving Safety Course form (entering plea of guilty or no contest)
- •Valid Texas driver's license or permit (or proof of active-duty U.S. military membership / spouse / dependent)
- •Proof of financial responsibility (auto liability insurance)
- •Payment of court costs
- •Uniform certificate of course completion (TEA/TDLR-approved DSC) — due by 90th day
- •Affidavit that you have not taken/completed a DSC in the preceding 12 months — due by 90th day
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •Certified copy of Texas DPS driving record (Version 3A) — due by 90th day
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: Must request by the appearance/due date printed on the citation.
- •Completion window: Must complete the driving safety course and submit the completion certificate, the 12-month affidavit, and the certified Type 3A driving record within 90 days of the request..
- •Requests for defensive driving, dismissals, or deferred disposition may only be made by mail or in person — NOT online.
- •Do NOT pay your citation online if you want a driving safety course; paying online results in a conviction on your driving record.
- •Only the defendant or a licensed attorney may enter a plea / make the request.
- •If you fail to submit all required evidence by the 90th day, the court sets a show-cause hearing.
