DSC Court Fees
⚠ Court's own Drivers Safety Course page states a total cost of $146.00 (state costs, state traffic fine, and administrative fee combined) — a specific court-posted amount, not the statewide $144/$169 fallback. This is the court fee only; the separate driving-safety-course provider fee is the student's own responsibility.
How to Request DSC Approval
To Request Approval — Submit These
- •payment of $146.00 court fee
- •proof of current financial responsibility/insurance (applicant must be a listed driver)
- •copy of driver's license
- •signed affidavit/Request for Driver's Safety Course confirming no DSC completion in the past 12 months
After Completing the Course — Submit These
- •after approval: TEA-approved course completion certificate
- •after approval: certified driving record from Texas DPS ($10 by mail, $12 online)
Important Deadlines & Local Rules
- •Request deadline: On or before the scheduled court appearance date on the citation.
- •Completion window: 90 days from the date the court approves the request, to complete the course and obtain the certified driving record..
- •Applicant must plead guilty or no contest and waive the right to a jury trial to be considered.
- •Ineligible if a driving safety course was completed within the prior 12 months.
- •Ineligible offenses include leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving, passing a stopped school bus, and construction/work-zone violations with workers present.
- •Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders are not eligible.
